The Chait lab is working to generate mixtures of miniature antibodies (nanobodies) that synergistically neutralize the virus that causes COVID-19 and other betacoronaviruses in a low-cost, globally available, easily administered inhalable treatment. They have developed and tested methods for raising diverse repertoires of neutralizing nanobodies that block the entry of the virus into cells and now plan to characterize mixtures of these nanobodies that are optimized for global distribution to the developing world.
Mass spectrometry is a powerful analytical technique that can accurately measure the molecular masses of individual biomolecules, including peptides, proteins, and large intact protein assemblies. Chait’s lab specializes in the development of mass spectrometers and other tools and methods for investigating a variety of biological and biochemical phenomena.
